Okanogan County Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update

Public Comment Requested - April 11, 2016 to May 11, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.

In order to ensure that all interested parties have had a meaningful opportunity to review and comment on the Okanogan County Shoreline Master Program, Ecology will reopen the comment period for an additional 30 days.  The public comment period will be from April 11, 2016 to May 11, 2016.

Okanogan County is located in the north-central part of Washington with shoreline along numerous streams and lakes. The proposed shoreline program will guide construction and development along the shoreline jurisdiction within Okanogan County. This comprehensive update will completely replace the current 1987 SMP which was last amended in 1996. The locally tailored plan is designed to help minimize environmental damage to shoreline areas, reserve appropriate areas for water-oriented uses and protect people’s access to public land and waters.

Ecology will compare Okanogan County's proposed program to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, Ecology will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is or with recommended changes, or
  • Send the proposed program back to Okanogan County with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.
