Tekoa Shoreline Master Program: Comprehensive Update
Public Comment Requested - June 15, 2016 to July 15, 2016 at 5:00 p.m.
The Washington Department of Ecology seeks public comment on the City of Tekoa’s proposed update to its Shoreline Master Program (SMP). The City of Tekoa has shoreline along Hangman Creek.
Whitman County, and its cities and towns with jurisdictional shorelines formed a coalition to pursue a regional update to their shoreline master programs. The cities and towns of Whitman County will each have an individual comment period for their Shoreline Master Program update.
The City of Tekoa is updating their Shoreline Program to reflect the local vision for appropriate shoreline development, public shoreline access, and environmental protection as required by the Shoreline Management Act (RCW 90.58). The comprehensive update revises the existing shoreline program, including the goals, policies, regulations, shoreline environment designations, and administrative procedures and definitions. This updated SMP increases protection and restoration of habitat and water quality, provides more certainty for development, and improves public access and recreational opportunities.
Ecology will compare the Tekoa proposed program to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. Based on the comparison, Ecology will decide whether to:

All interested parties are invited to provide comment during this public comment period. There are several ways to provide comments. You only need to submit your comments once.
